Every physical interaction creates sound. Most of it is not hearable.
Imagine puncturing skin with a needle and being able to hear each layer as it’s entered or passed. Or imagine probing a steak and knowing its exact doneness based on the "sound" the needle produces...
Well, not entirely:
Every interaction creates vibrations that are too small for the human ear to detect.
At SURAG, we developed a technology that captures these structural vibrations, converts them to sound, and looks beyond the hearable with AI.
We spent over a decade capturing and decoding these signals. And now, we are going to make it available to everyone - to surgeons, researchers, and engineers alike. This includes our powerful AI engine to analyse and decode these signals.
There are different ways these signals improve our perception:
Real-time audio feedback enhances perception of nearly every task, especially in surgery, in what we call "blind procedures".
With machine learning, you can interpret the signal and its spectrum:
E.g., when interacting with tissue, you can extract characteristics of the tissue you are interacting with.
Other fields are robotics and general industrial processes, such as machine monitoring (was the component installed correctly?). For more, see our pages Vibroacoustics and Publications
Our sensors can be attached to nearly any tool without any modification.
We don't emit any energy; we just record.

We developed a new Research-Kit, allowing experimentation with this technology.
Use it for training or build your own models. No specific knowledge is needed. If necessary, we can help you. For more, check out our R-Kit page.
Surag Medical GmbH was founded in 2021 as a spin-off from the University of Magdeburg.
We develop hardware, software, and provide consulting in the area of signal processing. We have a strong background in scientific research and are pioneers in the field of vibroacoustics.
If you are curious whether our services or our hardware might help you, feel free to contact us at team@surag-medical.com . We’d love to hear from you!
We have published extensive research focusing on SURAG and vibroacoustics in general.
